Artificial Intelligence (AI) is transforming how we create and interact with music. Recently, my kids wrote a song using AI, and while the result was impressive, I couldn’t help but feel that they missed out on something essential: the fun and joy of the creative journey.
The Magic Lies in the Process, Not Just the Product
When children use AI to generate music, they get instant results. But the real excitement comes from brainstorming lyrics, experimenting with melodies, and even making mistakes along the way. These are the moments that spark laughter, learning, and lasting memories. AI can produce a polished song in seconds, but it cannot replicate the thrill of creative discovery that makes songwriting memorable.

AI is a valuable tool, but it should enhance—not replace—the creative experience. Parents and educators can guide kids to use technology as a starting point, then dive deeper into the creative process. Whether it’s writing lyrics together, experimenting with instruments, or simply singing as a family, the magic is in doing it themselves. Let’s remind kids that while AI can help them make music, the true joy is in the making.
