What Makes This Discovery So Special?
The Burtele foot suggests that another early human relative lived in East Africa at the same time as Lucy, about 3.4 million years ago. Instead of walking fully upright, this creature’s thumb-like toe let it grip branches, indicating it probably split its time between trees and the ground. That’s a real-life Tarzan in the making!
