Newly Discovered ‘Quasi-Moon’ Orbits Earth
Astronomers have uncovered an elusive space rock, now called a ‘quasi-moon’, that has been silently shadowing Earth for the past 60 years. This fascinating discovery highlights how much we still have to learn about our cosmic neighborhood. The object, identified as 2025 PN7, managed to escape detection for decades. Now, experts say it will continue its unique dance around Earth until at least 2085.

What Is a Quasi-Moon?
Unlike our familiar Moon, a quasi-moon doesn’t orbit Earth directly. Instead, it follows a synchronized path with our planet, looping around the Sun in a way that keeps it close to Earth. The new quasi-moon, 2025 PN7, is not a threat to our planet but offers astronomers a rare opportunity to study near-Earth objects and their movements.
Scientists are excited about this discovery because it helps us better understand the dynamic environment around Earth. As technology improves and telescopes become more powerful, new objects like 2025 PN7 will continue to come to light.
