BCI Achieves Major Traceability Milestone
The Better Cotton Initiative (BCI) has announced a significant achievement: half of its cotton is now physically traceable. This means that 50% of the cotton sourced under BCI’s sustainability program can be tracked back to its country of origin. While full traceability down to the farm level isn’t always possible yet, this is still a huge leap forward for transparency in the global cotton supply chain.

A Step Towards Sustainable Fashion
Traceability is a big deal in the world of sustainable fashion. Consumers and brands alike want to know where their materials come from. With BCI reaching the 50% traceability mark, responsible sourcing just became easier for everyone involved. However, as the news points out, this traceability generally stops at the country level rather than the specific farm—so there’s still some work to do. Still, it’s progress worth celebrating.
Is it just us, or does it feel like fashion is finally starting to clean out its closet? Here’s to hoping the other half of BCI cotton soon becomes as easy to trace as your favorite pair of socks. Until then, at least we know we’re moving in the right direction!
