CGIAR Centers have joined forces to reshape the future of global agricultural data. From June 17–20, 2025, they hosted a Data Harmonization Workshop at CIMMYT headquarters in Texcoco, Mexico. Their mission: to create a unified framework that makes agricultural data FAIR—Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable—for researchers and innovators worldwide.
By focusing on data harmonization, CGIAR Centers aim to break down silos and enable seamless data sharing. This initiative will not only strengthen collaboration across global research institutions but will also pave the way for AI-ready data ecosystems. With better data accessibility, scientists can leverage artificial intelligence to accelerate solutions for food security, climate resilience, and sustainable agriculture.
Why FAIR and AI-Ready Data Matter
Making data FAIR empowers agricultural researchers to discover, access, and reuse vital datasets. This approach speeds up innovation and ensures that research findings reach those who need them most. The integration of AI-ready data means advanced technologies can process and analyze information faster, leading to smarter, evidence-based decisions in agriculture.
Looking Ahead
CGIAR’s commitment to data harmonization sets a new standard for the agricultural research community. As more Centers adopt these frameworks, the global agriculture sector will benefit from faster, more informed discoveries that address urgent challenges.
