China’s artificial intelligence (AI) industry made remarkable progress in 2024, with its scale exceeding RMB 900 billion, according to the latest report by the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT). The industry experienced a robust 24% year-on-year growth, showcasing China’s rapid advancements in AI development and adoption.
China’s AI Ecosystem Expands Rapidly
Wang Aihua, Deputy Chief Engineer at CAICT, revealed these findings during the recent ‘2025 AI Industry and Enabling New Industrialization Conference’ in mainland China. By September 2025, the number of AI enterprises in China surpassed 5,300, accounting for 15% of global AI businesses. This surge highlights China’s growing influence in the AI sector and its commitment to fostering innovation.
The report underscores that China has established a comprehensive AI industrial system, covering foundational infrastructure, model frameworks, and industry-specific applications. This ecosystem positions China as a major player in the global AI landscape, driving advancements across various sectors.
