However, it unfortunately ends up glorifying one-sided infatuation and reinforces outdated, misogynistic ideas. The narrative fails to challenge the notion that a man’s relentless pursuit, even after repeated refusals, is romantic rather than disturbing.
Problematic Themes Still Haunt Bollywood
The story cements the dangerous belief that “No means Yes”, disregarding consent and women’s autonomy. Despite changing times and conversations around respectful relationships, Bollywood appears reluctant to move away from these tropes. The film’s depiction of love as an obsessive, all-consuming force sends the wrong message to audiences, especially younger viewers. It’s high time the industry evolves and portrays healthier, more respectful relationships on screen.
