Exploring the Psychometric Properties of the AI Attitude Scale: Insights from Turkish Adaptation

Understanding the AI Attitude Scale

The Artificial Intelligence Attitude Scale-4 (AIAS-4) provides valuable insights into public perceptions of AI. This scale can effectively assess both the advantages and disadvantages of artificial intelligence. Recent research conducted in Turkey involved two studies focusing on AI attitudes. In Study I, which included 370 participants, the AIAS-4 demonstrated a one-dimensional structure confirmed by factor analysis. Importantly, the fit index values were robust, indicating strong validity with a Comparative Fit Index (CFI) of 0.991 and a Goodness of Fit Index (GFI) of 0.989.

Further validation through item response analysis showed that the scale items exhibit excellent discrimination, with values ranging from 2.22 to 3.80. The measurement invariance analysis confirmed that the AIAS-4 measures the same construct across genders. In Study II, involving 331 participants, researchers established the scale’s reliability by calculating various coefficients. Notably, AI attitudes linked closely with mental health indicators, including depression and anxiety. Traits such as openness to experience and conscientiousness also correlated significantly with AI attitudes. Psychological distress emerged as a crucial mediator in these relationships.

Conclusions and Implications

This pioneering research offers critical insights into how AI attitudes impact mental health. The findings underscore the necessity for further exploration into the implications of AI in daily life. Source
