Study Links AI Usage to Academic Challenges for Students
A new research study reveals that frequent use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools may actually hinder students’ academic performance. Associate Professor Marina Lepp from the University of Tartu Institute of Computer Science, along with co-author Joosep Kaimre, recently examined this growing concern. Their research involved 231 students and closely analyzed how AI-powered tools impact learning outcomes.

The authors observed that while AI tools can offer support in learning, over-reliance may stunt real skill development and critical thinking. Students who used AI frequently tended to show weaker academic results compared to those who relied less on such tools. The study highlights the importance of balancing technology with traditional learning methods to foster genuine understanding and better academic achievements.
