Jaishankar Defends India’s Russian Oil Purchases
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar recently addressed criticism from Western nations about India’s continued oil trade with Russia. He firmly stated that India reserves the right to make decisions based on its national interests. During his remarks, Jaishankar pointed out a stark comparison: European countries have maintained a much larger trade relationship with Russia compared to India, even amidst ongoing global tensions and the Ukraine war.
India’s Stand on National Interests
Jaishankar emphasized that India’s energy security remains a top priority. He stressed that the country will continue to make choices that best serve its economic and strategic interests. While addressing these concerns, he highlighted the disproportionate scrutiny India faces compared to European nations whose oil imports from Russia far surpass those of India. This stance underlines India’s commitment to safeguarding its sovereignty in foreign policy decisions.
