Rep. Lauren Boebert is no stranger to making headlines, but this Halloween she turned more heads than usual—and not in a good way. At a Colorado Halloween party, Boebert and her boyfriend arrived in costumes that left even the most conservative partygoers cringing. Boebert dressed as a stereotypical Mexican woman, complete with a sombrero, and her boyfriend donned an ICE agent outfit. If that wasn’t enough, Boebert carried a chalkboard sign, adding fuel to the fire. 
Backlash Across the Political Spectrum
The costumes didn’t just ruffle feathers on the left. Even many conservatives at the party felt uncomfortable and called out the choice as tone-deaf and offensive. Halloween costumes should be fun, not harmful, but Boebert’s attempt at humor missed the mark by a mile. It seems like every year, someone needs a reminder that racism isn’t a costume.
