Macron Raises Concerns Over G20’s Future
French President Emmanuel Macron recently voiced his concerns that the G20 is “at risk” as the influential bloc faces mounting global crises. Macron’s warning comes at a time when the G20, known for shaping policies on the world’s most pressing issues, appears increasingly fractured. The latest meeting in South Africa highlighted these divisions, especially as members struggled to find common ground on urgent topics like climate change, economic instability, and geopolitical tensions.
Climate Declaration Sparks Controversy
During the South African summit, the G20 adopted a new climate declaration—but notably, the United States did not participate in its formation. Washington went so far as to call the move “shameful,” further exposing the bloc’s internal rifts. Clearly, the G20’s unity is under strain, threatening its ability to tackle the urgent challenges the world faces today.
It’s almost as if the G20 needs its own emergency meeting just to agree on having meetings! With leaders pulling in different directions, one has to wonder: Will the world’s biggest economies get their act together before the next global crisis hits?
