Mortal Kombat 1 Sales Fall Short Compared to MK11
Mortal Kombat 1 hasn’t lived up to the sales expectations set by its predecessor, Mortal Kombat 11. According to recent reports, MK1 has sold less than half as many copies as MK11. This news comes as a surprise, especially since NetherRealm Studios moved directly from developing MK11 to launching Mortal Kombat 1, skipping their usual Injustice title in between.
Why Did Mortal Kombat 1 Underperform?
The fighting game community expected Mortal Kombat 1 to match, or even exceed, the success of MK11. However, several factors may have contributed to the lower sales. Fans have criticized the game’s content, saying it lacks the depth and polish of previous entries. Additionally, some players felt the marketing and pre-release hype did not capture the excitement that surrounded MK11. Competition from other major game releases during the same period may have also split the attention of fighting game fans.
Despite the slow start, Mortal Kombat 1 still offers brutal action, iconic characters, and classic fatalities. Time will tell if updates and new content can boost its sales numbers.
