Understanding Rare Bone Diseases
Rare bone diseases (RBDs) present significant diagnostic challenges due to their individual rarity and diverse symptoms. These conditions impact bone and cartilage health, making accurate identification essential. Image recognition artificial intelligence (AI) offers promising solutions for healthcare providers by enhancing their ability to recognize and differentiate imaging patterns associated with RBDs.
This global survey, conducted from March to September 2024, engaged healthcare professionals worldwide to gauge their interest in AI diagnostic tools. The survey attracted 103 responses from 27 countries, primarily from Europe, the US, and Canada. A significant majority of respondents, including physicians from various specialties such as medical genetics and pediatrics, recognized the value of imaging in diagnosing RBDs.
Key Findings and Insights
In the survey, 91% of participants identified imaging as crucial, with X-rays being the preferred modality. However, concerns about potential AI errors were prevalent, with 42% of respondents expressing the need for clear explanations of AI algorithms. Despite these concerns, a remarkable 81% of participants indicated they would consider incorporating AI into their diagnostic processes. This highlights a significant opportunity for collaboration between AI developers and healthcare professionals to foster trust in AI technologies.
