Introduction to Skyfall
AeroVironment and NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) have unveiled an exciting new concept for a Mars helicopter named Skyfall. This innovative design aims to enhance the exploration of the Martian landscape ahead of the first crewed mission to Mars in 2028. The Skyfall concept proposes deploying six autonomous helicopters that will scout potential landing sites on the Red Planet.
The primary function of these rotorcraft is to transmit high-resolution images and data back to Earth. This information will be crucial for mission planners as they determine the best locations for astronauts to land safely on Mars. By utilizing advanced technologies, Skyfall aims to provide invaluable insights into the Martian environment.
