South Korea Embraces Private AI for Public Services
South Korea has unveiled a bold initiative to modernize its public sector by integrating private-sector AI tools into government operations. On Monday, the Ministry of Science and ICT, along with the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, announced the creation of a ‘common artificial intelligence infrastructure’. This system will allow government employees to safely access and use selected commercial AI models within secure government networks. 
Launch Set for Early 2026
The new AI infrastructure is scheduled to launch fully in early 2026, following a period of testing. Once live, central and local government agencies will gain access to a suite of commercial AI models, high-quality training data, and powerful computing resources. The goal? To turbocharge administrative and public services while cutting down on duplicate development and unnecessary investment.
