Cybersecurity experts have detected a new threat targeting European organizations: the TamperedChef malware. This malicious software disguises itself as a legitimate PDF editor, tricking users into downloading and installing it on their systems.
How TamperedChef Works
Once installed, TamperedChef infiltrates the user’s browser and hijacks stored credentials. The malware then opens backdoors, allowing cybercriminals to access sensitive information and potentially control the infected system. Its ability to convincingly mimic a popular PDF editor makes it especially dangerous, as many users may not suspect any foul play until it’s too late.
Protecting Yourself from Malware
Always download software from trusted sources and verify its authenticity before installation. Regularly update your antivirus tools and be cautious about unexpected prompts to install new applications, even if they appear legitimate.
