Turkey’s Internet Freedom Hits a New Low in 2025
Turkey has landed among the bottom five countries globally for internet freedom, according to the latest report from US-based democracy watchdog, Freedom House. In the 2025 Freedom on the Net assessment, Turkey scored only 31 out of 100, signaling a harsh reality for digital rights and online expression in the country.

What’s Behind Turkey’s Low Score?
The report highlights long-term declines in internet freedom in Turkey. Government restrictions, censorship, and surveillance have become more common, making it increasingly difficult for citizens to access unfiltered information online. The country’s spot in the bottom tier of 72 evaluated nations paints a grim picture for journalists, activists, and ordinary users who want to freely express themselves.
It’s almost like Turkey’s internet got put on a permanent “parental control” mode—except nobody’s laughing. On the bright side, at least Turkish netizens have become experts at using VPNs and creative emoji communication! Still, one can only hope that future reports will bring better news for digital freedom lovers in Turkey.
