It’s official—CERN can’t function without AI anymore. Last week, the Enlarged Directorate approved a comprehensive, CERN-wide AI strategy. This strategy unites all ongoing AI initiatives and sets four clear goals: scientific discovery, productivity and reliability, talent development, and enabling AI at scale through partnerships and societal impact. The plan aims for responsible, open, and impactful use of AI, so CERN continues to push the boundaries of science.
What’s Next for CERN and AI?
The strategy doesn’t just look good on paper—it demands action. CERN plans to collaborate with Member States, EU programmes, and industry to accelerate AI capacity, access better infrastructure, and secure vital funding.
